What is Rose Quartz?

Rose quartz is essentially a mineral made up of silicon dioxide molecules. Increased temperatures ranging from 400°c (752°F) to 700°C (1292°F) help to form the crystals. They are usually translucent pastel pale pink or rose pink.

It develops its colour from traces of minerals such as iron, titanium, and manganese that are usually present during its formation. They're also other colour varieties, including deeper pink stones referred to as strawberry rose quartz or pale purple stones referred to as lavender rose.

The deep pink hues are rarer and in greater demand. But they are all part of the quartz crystal family along with other popular quartz gemstones such as citrine and amethyst.

Although never fully transparent, rose quartz is often turbid and milky in appearance. It's a durable, affordable stone that's widely available because it's found all around the world, including the US, Germany, Australia, Sweden, Brazil, Madagascar, India, and South Africa.
